Buy a case with your iPhone Duo. Apple's own listed repair fees make the argument: without AppleCare+, an inner display repair is $999, other damage is $1,499, an outer display is $379, and back glass is $199. Apple's official iPhone Duo Case costs $79, less than half the cheapest of those repairs. Here is Apple's official lineup, what each accessory costs according to Apple, who it suits, and what to hold off on.
Key takeaways
- Apple sells two official cases: the iPhone Duo Case ($79) and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand ($129), U.S. prices.
- Both have built-in magnets and work with MagSafe, Qi2 25W, and Qi-certified chargers, according to Apple.
- The iPhone Duo supports MagSafe wireless charging, according to Apple.
- Apple's listed repair fees without AppleCare+ run from $199 for back glass to $999 for the inner display and $1,499 for other damage, as reported by MacRumors.
- A case mostly protects the outside of the phone; it cannot cover the inner display while the Duo is open.
Apple's official lineup at a glance
| Accessory | Price (U.S.) | Colors | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo Case | $79 | Sand, navy blue | Everyday protection with the least bulk |
| iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand | $129 | Navy blue, taupe | Hands-free viewing and FaceTime |
| MagSafe Charger | Not listed | Not applicable | Wireless charging at a desk or bedside |
Case prices are from Apple's iPhone Duo announcement, and both cases can be ordered now alongside iPhone Duo pre-orders, which opened Friday, October 16 at 8 a.m. ET. We have not listed a MagSafe Charger price because we could not confirm one for this guide on Apple's store.
iPhone Duo Case
What it is. Apple describes the iPhone Duo Case as thin and light, with a protective two-part design that wraps around both sides of the device. It comes in sand and navy blue. Built-in magnets align it with the Duo, and Apple says it is compatible with MagSafe, Qi2 25W, and Qi-certified chargers, so it can stay on while you charge wirelessly.
What it costs. $79 (U.S.), according to Apple.
Who it suits. Most buyers. If you want protection without changing how the phone feels in your hand or pocket, this is the default choice. At $79, it costs less than the $199 back glass repair Apple lists without AppleCare+.
iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand
What it is. Apple's Folio comes in navy blue and taupe and adds an integrated kickstand that, according to Apple, supports a wide range of angles for reading, viewing content, or FaceTime, and folds away neatly when not in use. Like the Case, it has built-in magnets and works with MagSafe, Qi2 25W, and Qi-certified chargers.
What it costs. $129 (U.S.), according to Apple.
Who it suits. Anyone who will use the unfolded Duo as a small screen: watching video on a table, reading, or holding long FaceTime calls without propping the phone against something. If you rarely open the phone for more than a few minutes, the Case does the protective job for $50 less.
MagSafe Charger
What it is. Apple confirms the iPhone Duo supports MagSafe wireless charging, as well as Qi2 25W and Qi-certified wireless chargers. Apple names its MagSafe Charger in 1-meter and 2-meter lengths for the Duo. The adapter you pair it with matters for charging speed; our iPhone Duo battery and charging guide covers exactly what Apple specifies.
What it costs. We could not confirm a MagSafe Charger price on Apple's store for this guide, so we have not listed one. Check Apple's store at checkout.
Who it suits. Anyone who wants to drop the phone on a charger at a desk or bedside. If you already own a MagSafe Charger, check our battery and charging guide before buying another.
What to skip or wait on
- Cases made for other iPhones. The Duo folds, so a case designed for a standard iPhone is not built for its shape.
- Other MagSafe accessories, for now. Apple's iPhone Duo announcement covers its own two cases and MagSafe charging. It does not say how other MagSafe accessories, such as wallets or stands, work with a foldable. If one matters to you, wait for hands-on reports after the Duo goes on sale on Friday, October 23.
- Third-party cases, until reviews arrive. Some case makers have started listing iPhone Duo cases (Tech21, for example, lists them on its website), but how well they fit a new foldable will only be clear once people have the phone. Apple's own cases are the safe choice for day one.
Protection and the repair bill
The argument for a case is the gap between the price of protection and Apple's listed repair fees. MacRumors reported these Apple-listed fees on October 14, 2026, for repairs without AppleCare+:
| Repair | Without AppleCare+ |
|---|---|
| Inner display damage | $999 |
| Other damage | $1,499 |
| Outer display damage | $379 |
| Back glass damage | $199 |
A case is best value against the damage it can actually prevent: the outer display and back glass are the outside surfaces it covers. It does far less for the inner display, which is exposed whenever the Duo is open. That $999 risk is the one AppleCare+ covers, so a case and AppleCare+ do different jobs.
Condition also matters later. If you plan to trade the Duo in later, our iPhone Duo trade-in guide explains how condition affects what you get back. And if you are ordering now, our iPhone Duo pre-order guide covers adding a case at checkout. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB.
